Welcome back! We hope that you have had a wonderful Easter and that you are looking forward to the Year 4 Summer Term as much as we are. This newsletter will give you information specific to Year 4 for the forthcoming term.
Please arrive at school ready for the classroom doors to open at 8:40am. It is very important that the children are on time as timetabled activities will begin at 8.50am promptly. Pease say goodbye to them outside in order to encourage greater independence. They are to be collected from the playground at 3:15pm.
Our new topic is called Gruesome London. As part of this topic we will be learning about London during the time of the Stuarts between 1603-1837. Some events during this time include the plague, the great fire of London and the civil war. We will also be learning about how different (and gruesome) life was in the past and how fortunate we are to live in the present!
In Year 4 the children will have the opportunity to take part in ‘Festival of Voices’ and they have begun rehearsing for this already. Please keep the evening of Monday the 2nd of July free as they will be performing at Hackney Empire and before that, on Monday 11th June, they will be doing a rehearsal at the Tower of London during the day. Information regarding tickets will be available nearer the time.
We have had many great trips already this year and we have many more to look forward to this term including Harry Potter World on 14th May, Night at the Science Museum on Fri 11th May-Saturday 12th May and more that we are looking into.
P.E sessions will usually take place on Monday and Tuesday. However, due to outside factors (such as the weather) it is possible that the P.E day could be subject to change. It is therefore preferable for the children to bring their kit on Monday and take it home on Friday. Children who started swimming last half term will continue throughout this term.
It is very important that your child brings their book bag to school every day.
Homework in Year 4 will form an integral part of the children’s daily learning and so it is vital that homework is completed on time and to a good standard.
As usual, if you ever have anything that you would like to talk to us about then please do not hesitate to speak to us at the beginning or the end of the school day. We can speak briefly then or make an appointment for a more lengthy discussion if the situation requires it.
Finally the curriculum overview for Year 4 can be found on the school website under the curriculum tab.
