Geography

At Britannia Education Trust, we believe that Geography helps to provoke and  provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the  world. Children are encouraged to develop a greater knowledge of the  world, and understand their place within it. The geography curriculum seeks  to enable children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to  other curriculum areas and which can and are used to promote their spiritual,  moral, social and cultural development linked to the school’s Qualities for  Life.

Geography is, by nature, an investigative subject, which develops an  understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills. It is our goal to base our  research as much as possible on using the resources around us. Docklands,  Epping Forest and local village and coastal areas of Essex provide a rich  backdrop in which to examine, compare and explore in order to secure our  children's knowledge and understanding of key geological principles of the  curriculum.

Children, using the KWL strategy (What I know, What I Want to know, and  What I have Learned), employ this approach to underpin their prior  knowledge while providing opportunities for the children’s questions about  the theme to be explored and addressed.

We seek to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and  its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives, equipping  them well for further education and beyond.
